Chelsea were one of the more prominent candidates for Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer when co-owner Todd Boehly met with the Portugal international’s agent Jorge Mendes to discuss a possible transfer.
While Boehly was open to pursuing Ronaldo, then Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel wasn’t so keen and it was decided to abandon their interest, with the Blues eventually signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona.
However, with Ronaldo now a free agent following his departure from Manchester United and Graham Potter now in the dugout at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have once again been named as potential suitors.
90min understands that Boehly has yet to rule out chasing Ronaldo, whose World Cup performances are being watched incredibly closely by the American.

As with Tuchel, Potter will be given an important voice in Chelsea’s transfer business alongside the recruitment analyst who followed him from Brighton, Kyle Macauley, and no decision on Ronaldo would be made without Potter’s endorsement.
Sources close to the Chelsea boss have confirmed this 90min that Potter is reportedly less interested in a transfer for Ronaldo despite his side’s struggles in front of goal, and that he has moved away from signing the veteran striker – who has also been turned down by Newcastle United.
While Chelsea accept that the team needs more goals, Potter is not convinced bringing in Ronaldo is the right thing to do and could wait until the summer to reinforce his striker, with RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku possibly the first of many acquisitions.
